Provider Advantage’s SPEEDLINE Frame Relay system is a dedicated long distance circuit connecting key northwest and national locations to the transaction processing centers of the clearinghouses and payers with whom we partner.
Provider Advantage establishes a permanent virtual circuit (PVC) for each customer so their requests can travel through the frame relay telecommunications network. Virtual circuits are essentially computer controlled private lines that share a single telephone line (wire). Because PVCs are computer controlled, they have the capacity to allow large volumes of data to be quickly transmitted between the provider and the carrier database. The effect of the dedicated PVC is a very quick response time since the message routing is preprogrammed. The preprogrammed virtual circuit means there is a permanent path between the provider and the carrier. This compares to a modem connection which requires the path to be set up each time a transaction is sent.
The Provider Advantage SPEEDLINE network is completely managed. In cases of failure, Provider Advantage staff can look down the line to identify the point where is line is broken, or we can measure utilization and transaction speed to find places where the network can be improved.

Get immediate responses:
Since a frame relay connection uses a dedicated “always open” line, the modem dial up activity is eliminated. This provides for an almost instant response on eligibility transactions -- two or three seconds as compared to forty to sixty seconds when a modem is used.
Process multiple transactions at once:
With frame relay, each inquiry does not have to wait in line while an earlier request is processed. Using frame relay, all transactions drop into the frame relay line right off the network at the speed of light, since the frame relay is open and available at all times. A well-designed frame relay interface will allow multiple transactions to be processed in parallel.
More reliable connection:
Digital transmission (computer to computer language, i.e., using bits and bytes) is used with frame relay. Conversely, computers talking to voice grade lines (e.g., modems), must have their language translated into tones, which is less reliable and less efficient, and are affected by other noise or static on the line.
Secure transmission:
Since frame relay transmits on a network that can only transmit from one point (i.e., from the customer’s network) to a second predefined point (i.e. Provider Advantage), security is guaranteed.
